The Nectar Lush Mattress is one of two premium mattress options from Nectar. This all-foam mattress will ship right to your door in proper bed-in-a-box fashion. With a 365-night in-home trial, you can spend an entire year with your new Nectar mattress before deciding if it’s right for you.
Nectar is known for its original mattress titled The Nectar Mattress. The original Nectar is better suited for back sleepers as it feels a bit firmer than the Nectar Lush. The original also settles at an affordable price point, almost half as much as the Nectar Lush.
However, those who can afford to splurge on a new mattress will want to dig into the finer detail of the Nectar Lush before making a decision. Let’s get into it.
Layer by layer, the Nectar Lush contains more high-quality materials than the original. These quality materials may generate a higher price point, but the Nectar Lush is designed to keep sleepers cool and undisturbed.
The Lush’s cooling cover uses high-quality fibers to draw heat away from the body. Some sleepers may prefer the Lush’s thin cover when compared to thicker brands.
Three inches of gel-infused memory foam make up the Lush’s comfort layer. Side sleepers will be particularly drawn to the soft feel.
The comfort layer’s most unique feature is its AquaCool treatment, applied to the center third of the gel-coated layer. This section draws heat away from the warmest part of your body, your midsection.
Beneath the comfort layer is 2 inches of high-density Energex Foam. Meant to provide an easy transition between the comfort and base layer, this foam offers pressure relief similar to the comfort layer while keeping you from sinking to the Lush’s base layer.
The Lush’s base layer contains 7 inches of high-density polyfoam. The support from this layer makes the Nectar Lush viable for back sleepers. You’ll be sinking into the upper layers while being supported by the base layer of foam.
Many reviewers noted the Nectar Lush eases their back pain, an affliction far too many people suffer from due to a low-quality mattress.
As mentioned above, the Nectar Lush falls around a 6/10 on the firmness scale and leans towards the soft side. This is to be expected with an all-foam mattress as sleepers, especially on the heavier side, will sink into foam layers.
The combination of foams makes the Nectar Lush a side sleeper’s paradise. However, the transition layer of Energex foam will attract back sleepers who prefer a softer feel. That being said, let’s dive into the pros and cons of each sleep position.
Preferred position and pressure relief are the two most important factors to consider when buying a new mattress. How you sleep narrows the decision. Features like bounce, motion transfer, and cooling will come secondarily.
If you prefer to sleep on your side, you’ll require a softer mattress for pressure relief around your shoulders and hips. Side sleepers are drawn to all-foam and softer mattresses as they’ll provide the necessary relief. For this reason alone, side sleepers should thoroughly enjoy the Nectar Lush. They can then take advantage of its other features.
Light and average weight side sleepers will thoroughly enjoy the Nectar Lush as they sink into the transition layer. However, side sleepers who weigh 230 pounds or more may sink too deep. They’ll prefer something with a little more support to keep them from hitting the dense base layer.
The Nectar Lush will be a toss-up for back sleepers. They have to ask themselves what feel they prefer, soft or firm? Back sleepers who enjoy a softer feel will sink into the Lush’s comfort layer and get the body contouring and pressure relief they desire. However, those preferring a more firm feel may want to consider a different brand entirely. Nectar is known to be on the softer side of mattresses.
Weight-wise, the Nectar Lush can work with all classes of back sleepers but is more tailored to light and average weight customers. Heavyweight back sleepers will find some support but might be better off with a hybrid mattress.
The Nectar Lush is not ideal for stomach sleepers. This sleep position requires more support under the hips to keep the spine aligned. Stomach sleepers on foam mattresses will end up sinking into the bed and throwing their back out of alignment. They’ll want to find something more supportive.
Memory foam mattresses, by nature, can sleep hot. Most brands do everything they can to build and infuse their foams with breathable features like cooling gels and perforations. The Nectar Lush’s comfort layer and cover are constructed to be as breathable as possible.
The Phase Change Material in the Lush’s comfort layer absorbs body heat. The materials even change their physical composition to keep you cool.
The Nectar Lush features a Tencel cover to aid in further temperature control and airflow. The thin cover allows heat to pass through and dissipate throughout the mattress rather than get trapped inside.
The Nectar Lush lacks in the bounce department, which doesn’t make it the ideal mattress for sexually active couples. The soft memory foam will have you sinking into the bed and makes moving around rather tricky.
This is to be expected with an all-foam mattress and is a conversation that partners should have when buying a new bed. The comfort and transition layers of the Nectar Lush will keep you cool and comfortable at night. However, you won’t be moving around much.
One of the most critical aspects of buying a new mattress for couples is motion transfer. We want to do everything we can to provide our partners with a restful night’s sleep. That means leaving them undisturbed when waking up early or having to use the bathroom. Even small movements like changing sleep positions can disturb light sleepers.
All-foam mattresses generally excel at motion isolation. The Nectar Lush is no different. From the comfort layer to the support core, all three layers of Nectar foam do an excellent job of trapping motion. You could even go as far as jumping on the bed, and your partner shouldn’t wake up. Of course, incredibly light sleepers may still feel a minor disturbance.
Every high-quality mattress has its pros and cons. While the Nectar Lush will provide side sleepers with the pressure relief they need, this all-foam mattress will not provide ideal edge support. Those who like to sit on the edge of the bed will notice considerable sink as the foam gives way to their weight.
The high-density foam puts the Nectar Lush ahead of most all-foam mattresses. However, edge support and foam mattresses don’t usually go hand-in-hand. Those who require assistance getting in and out of bed will want to find something with better edge support. Perhaps they’d be better suited to a hybrid mattress.
The Nectar Lush comes with a “forever” warranty covering indents greater than 1.5 inches sustained with proper use. They’ll also cover cracks, splits, and degradation in the foam caused by natural wear and tear. The high-quality materials used in the Nectar Lush should give you five to six good years of use.
Hybrid mattresses tend to be more durable as the coils are made of long-lasting materials. While foam provides plenty of comfort, it’s not as durable as more supportive components.
