Layla Sleep strives to ease mattress shopping through its user-friendly website. They also use flippable mattress technology.
Flippable memory-foam mattresses are heavier than conventional ones, but they are more versatile because each side provides a different support level. The soft side of the Layla Hybrid ranks at a 4/10 on the firmness scale, while the firmer side comes in at a 7/10.
The Layla Hybrid Mattress features a pocket coil support system layered between copper-infused memory and polyfoam. The copper infusion aids in the mattresses’ cooling abilities and pressure relief. Finally, with low-gauge coils lining the support core’s edge, the Layla Hybrid provides excellent edge support on the firm side.
The Layla Hybrid’s cover is made chiefly from polyester and finished with Viscose and Poly Lycra. It’s breathable, soft, and comfortable. An integrated zipper makes for easy removal and cleaning.
Comfort Layers (Plush Side)
The Layla Hybrid’s plush side consists of 2.5-inch copper-infused memory foam and 2 inches of Layla’s Maximum AirFlow Support Foam. With air channels carved into it, this AirFlow comfort layer draws heat away from the body.
Six inches of individually wrapped pocket coils make up the support core of the Layla Hybrid. The support core features a double-coil perimeter for maximum edge support. The meat of the support layer is made of 14-gauge coils, with 16-gauge coils at the edges.
Comfort Layers (Firm Side)
This side features a 1-inch layer of copper gel memory foam and 1.5 inches of Max AirFlow Support Foam. While these layers are the same material as the plush side, their thinner construction makes for a firmer feel.
The plush side of the Layla Hybrid rates as a 4/10, ranking it medium-soft. Side sleepers and lightweight individuals (under 130 pounds) will enjoy the soft side of the Layla Hybrid. It lends a memory-foam-like feel that allows sleepers to sink further into the mattress.
The other side of the Layla Hybrid rates 7/10, considered firm. Stomach and back sleepers will find this side more in tune with their needs. Sleepers won’t sink as deeply on this side. Some reviewers have found the soft side of the Layla Hybrid to be too firm.
The Layla Hybrid, because of its flippability, should fit the needs of most sleepers. However, lightweight and heavyweight stomach sleepers may want to look elsewhere.
The Layla Hybrid’s firm side will provide average weight (130-230 pounds) stomach sleepers with adequate support. They will want to avoid the Layla Hybrid’s soft side, as they’ll sink too far. However, individuals under 130 pounds or over 230 pounds who sleep on their stomachs will want something with more support.
The soft side of the Layla Hybrid will be ideal for side sleepers of all weight classes. The thick comfort layers let them sink into the mattress and provides relief around the hips and shoulders. Side sleepers will likely prefer the plush side of the mattress.
This mattress suits all back sleepers. Lightweight back sleepers will enjoy the soft side of the Layla Hybrid. They’ll sink into the thick memory foam just enough to contour to their bodies without throwing off their spinal alignment. Average weight and heavyweight back sleepers will want to use the firm side.
The Layla Hybrid’s soft side features thick memory foam that contours to side sleepers’ body shapes. These sleepers require this extra contour to relieve pressure at the shoulders and hips. Thicker foam layers adapt to the body better, which is why side sleepers tend to favor pure-foam mattresses.
Back and stomach sleepers will be better suited to the firm side because their weight is more evenly distributed. Sinking too deeply into thick memory foam can cause spinal misalignment, resulting in back pain.
When it comes to temperature control, the Layla Hybrid shines on both sides. Side sleepers sinking into the soft layers of memory foam will experience a temperature-neutral sensation. They won’t sleep hot, but they won’t sleep cold either.
Memory foam mattresses tend to trap heat, keeping it away from the slipper’s body. Layla’s copper-infused foams do an excellent job of displacing heat, making for a more breathable and cool mattress.
The Layla Hybrid’s firm side will provide back and stomach sleepers with a cool night’s sleep. Those who sleep hot will prefer the firm side.
Active couples will prefer the Layla Hybrid’s firm side because the thin layers of memory foam lend more bounce during sex. Couples considering the Layla Hybrid should assess their sleep needs and decide which side of the mattress suits them.
Motion isolation plays a significant role in shared beds. The soft side of the Layla Hybrid traps motion and prevents sleepers from disturbing each other. However, the Layla’ Hybrid’s firm side only buffers minor motions. While heavy sleepers won’t notice their partner rolling over or stretching, light sleepers likely will, making the soft side more suitable for them.
With 16 gauge coils around the perimeter of the support layer, the Layla Hybrid’s firm side will provide plenty of edge support. The 2.5 inches of foam will still sink, but it shouldn’t be too noticeable. Those who sleep near the edge of the bed—or who may require assistance getting in and out—will find the edge support they need on this side of the mattress.
Contrarily, sitting on the edge of the Layla Hybrid’s soft side will result in some sinking, an expected outcome with thick layers of foam.
The Layla’s coil support system provides durability with proper use. With a removable and washable cover to match, the Layla Hybrid will prove to be a long-term mattress.
Layla also offers a 10-year warranty to cover repairs or replace a defective mattress. The warranty covers splitting seams in the mattress cover, permanent indents greater than 1 inch in the foam, and loss of mattress shape greater than 1 inch. The warranty does not cover shipping costs.
