After Casper first introduced the concept of direct-to-consumer mattresses, Nectar co-founder Eric Hutchinson noticed that there was room for other players in the industry. He then met with Craig Schmeizer and Ran Reske and prepared to launch Nectar in 2016. Nectar has since been named the fastest growing e-commerce retailer in North America and subsequently added three additional mattress brands to the Nectar line.
Their mattresses are also sold in physical stores and online, including the showrooms in Mattress Warehouse locations nationwide. The founders recently created an umbrella company named Resident to offer a full range of household furnishings. Resident was named #43 in the Best Places to Work in NYC list in Built in NYC.
Their site states, “At Nectar, we believe that better sleep makes all the difference. That’s why our driving mission is to give you the best rest, night after night.” It also says, their “team of experts is built on honesty, facts, friendliness and a willingness to help…With offices in San Francisco, New York, Tel Aviv and London, and a company motto to work hard, have fun, and sleep deep, it’s no surprise we were named one of the best places for employees in NYC.”
The two mattresses currently sold on Nectar’s website include the Nectar mattress and the Nectar Lush mattress.

The Nectar Mattress is constructed of five layers of premium materials. These layers consist of:

The Nectar Lush also has premium materials in layers, which are made of:
This model uses patented materials to provide deep pressure relief and temperature regulation, promising 12 inches of dense foam and other premium materials to draw you into deep, supportive sleep. You read SleepMoment’s Nectar Lush mattress review here.
Nectar co-founder Eric Hutchinson explains that direct-to-consumer online mattress brands have competitors targeting niches within the industry, such as Casper “wanting to be known as the sleep brand, and Purple focusing on technology.” With that in mind, Resident is setting itself up as “the first online mattress brand to offer a broader range of products for the home.”
Hutchinson credits Nectar’s growth to the company’s ability to read what customers want in a mattress. Price, a trial period, a warranty, and free shipping and returns each make up a big part of that. He continues to say, “…and now as we move into the home, each category has a similar group of benefits consumers want.”
Nectar’s foams are assessed by independent laboratories and comply with CertiPUR-US standards for emissions, content, and durability. Nectar products are free from ozone depleters, heavy metals, phthalates, PBDE flame retardants, and other harmful chemicals and gases.
Nectar maintains a diversified supply chain with products sourced from and manufactured in countries such as China, Mexico, the USA, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Their site assures that these components are treated with the “utmost safety and sanitary measures in place.”
Aside from mattresses, Nectar also makes bed frames and foundations, bedding and pillows, bedroom furniture, and dog beds.
