Tempur-Pedic is, arguably, the household name in memory foam mattresses. Their technologically advanced beds come with many features to help their customers fall asleep and, most importantly, stay asleep. Features like anti-snore mechanics and adjustable frames make the Tempur-ProAdapt one of the most advanced mattresses on the market.

Materials & Construction

The Tempur-ProAdapt comes in four different models at the same price. All three memory foam models vary in firmness: soft, medium, and firm. The Hybrid model is only available in a medium-firm feel. Let’s dig into the Tempur-ProAdapt layer by layer, mattress by mattress.

Tempur-ProAdapt (All Foam)

The Comfort layer of the Tempur-ProAdapt all-foam mattress is made from TEMPUR-ES memory foam for body contouring and comfort. Underneath is a transition layer of TEMPUR memory foam to provide support and pressure relief.

Finally, the Tempur-ProAdapt base layer is made from dense polyfoam to provide the maximum support for an all-foam mattress. As the degrees of firmness go up, each of these foam layers is adjusted to offer more support.

Tempur-ProAdapt (Hybrid)

The Tempur-ProAdapt uses the same materials as its all-foam counterpart, aside from the support base. The Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid, like other hybrid mattresses, features pocket coils in the base layer for maximum support and bounce. These coils are encased in polyfoam for added comfort, making the Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid less bouncy than other hybrid mattresses.

Firmness

The Tempur-ProAdapt comes in four models, each with differing degrees of firmness. The softest version of the Tempur-ProAdapt rates 3/10 on the firmness scale, making it incredibly soft. However, some reviewers have noted that the softest version of this mattress is still too firm for them.

Every Tempur-ProAdapt comes with a 90-night in-home trial. A new mattress needs some time to break-in. You should know what to expect after the first 30 nights.

The Tempur-ProAdapt offers two medium-firm models in their all-foam and hybrid options. Heavier people who prefer a medium-firm feel will likely prefer the Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid rather than the all-foam model. The polyfoam-encased support coils should provide the bounce and responsiveness they need.

Those who prefer a firm mattress will find solace in the firmest option Tempur-Pedic offers. Weighing in at a 7/10 on the firmness scale, this Tempur-ProAdapt will meet your firm-mattress needs. This model should work for average weight and heavyweight stomach and back sleepers. Side sleepers, however, will likely prefer a softer option.

Sleep Position & Pressure Relief

Knowing your preferred sleep position is an essential factor to consider when shopping for a new mattress. Side sleepers prefer a soft mattress. They’re drawn to all-foam beds and plush hybrids. On the other hand, back and stomach sleepers need more support and prefer firm-foam options and almost all hybrids.

Back sleepers are the toss-up among the three and have the most options. Let’s dig into how each Tempur-ProAdapt mattress works with each sleep position:

Tempur-ProAdapt (Soft)

Slide Sleepers

The softest Tempur-ProAdapt will be the ideal option for most side sleepers of lightweight (less than 130 pounds) and average weight (130-230 pounds). They’ll sink into the top layers of foam and get the pressure relief they need around their shoulder and hips. Heavyweight (230 pounds or more) side sleepers will sink too deeply into the Tempur-ProAdapt and likely favor a firmer option.

Back Sleepers

Lightweight back sleepers will fare well with the Tempur-ProAdapt’s softest model, but average and heavyweight individuals will want to skip right over. Back sleepers need a sleep surface that won’t sink too much and throw off their spinal alignment. While soft foams can be comfortable, sinking into them for elongated periods will leave them with back pain.

Because the TEMPUR memory foam conforms very closely to the body, lightweight back sleepers will find the support they need in the Tempur-ProAdapt.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers will want to skip the soft version of the Tempur-ProAdapt. They will not find the support they need and are better off with firmer models.

Tempur-ProAdapt (Medium All Foam)

Side Sleepers

Light and average-weight side sleepers will love the medium all-foam Tempur-ProAdapt mattress. They’ll have no trouble sinking into the comfort and transition layers of foam, and their hips and shoulders will get the necessary support. Heavier side sleepers might find the medium to be a little too soft.

Back Sleepers

Lightweight back sleepers will get the most out of this mattress. It’s firm enough to give them the support they need while contouring to their body for added comfort. Average-weight back sleepers will find adequate support but may prefer something on the firmer side. Heavyweight back sleepers will be more interested in the Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid.

Stomach Sleepers

Like back sleepers, lightweight stomach sleepers will get comfort out of this mattress but may prefer something firmer. Average and heavyweight stomach sleepers should still skip over. All three weight classes will be better off with the Hybrid version or considering other brands.

Tempur-ProAdapt (Medium Hybrid)

Side Sleepers

Side Sleepers weighing under 130 pounds will enjoy the Tempur-ProAdapt medium hybrid. Average weight and heavyweight side sleepers will also enjoy this model but may prefer its all-foam counterpart.

Back Sleepers

The Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid is better suited for back sleepers when compared to its all-foam sibling. The polyfoam-encased coils will aid in supporting their spine. They won’t sink too deep into the mattress, and the TEMPUR foam transition layer should keep them from touching the base layer of coils.

Heavyweight back sleepers might still find this mattress to be a little too soft.

Stomach Sleepers

Lightweight stomach sleepers can get comfortable on this Tempur-ProAdapt. However, the stomach-sleeper jury is still out. Based on reviews, most stomach sleepers will want to shop around for more firm hybrid mattresses.

Tempur-ProAdapt (Firm)

Side Sleepers

This Tempur-ProAdapt is best for heavyweight side sleepers. They’ll be able to sink into the denser foams while finding the pressure relief they require. Lightweight side sleepers won’t sink enough and will prefer one of the softer models. The same goes for average-weight side sleepers closer to 130 pounds.

Back Sleepers

Average and heavyweight back sleepers will get the most use out of this mattress. They’ll sleep on a supportive plane, and their back should stay in line as the foams contour to their bodies. Lightweight back sleepers might find this mattress to be a little too firm.

Stomach Sleepers

The firmest Tempur-ProAdapt is the best all-around option for stomach sleepers of every weight class. The firm foams won’t cause your hips to sink, thus throwing your back out of alignment. Lightweight stomach sleepers might prefer the medium feel, but it’s up to them.

Temperature Control & Breathability

Those who sleep hot and prefer a softer mattress will want to shop elsewhere. The Tempur-ProAdapt’s plush versions will trap heat in the foam layers as your body sinks into them, especially those weighing over 230 pounds.

The Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid will keep your mattress heat neutral as the pocket coils and denser foams displace trapped heat. However, this mattress won’t necessarily cool you down at night. Again, those who know they sleep hot should seek out brands specializing in temperature control and breathability.

Feel & Bounce

The soft foam layers of the Tempur-ProAdapt don’t make it the best mattress for sexually active couples. Those who operate out of bed for work or other activities won’t have an easy time moving around on the foam layers. The Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid will prove more responsive, but the foam layers will still cause some noticeable sink.

Motion Isolation

The Tempur-ProAdapt excels in motion isolation. While the soft foams aren’t ideal for active couples, they’re great at absorbing movement and leaving your partner undisturbed. Of course, the softer version of the Tempur-ProAdapt will perform best, but its firmer counterparts will still shine.

While most Hybrid mattresses will transfer some motion due to responsive pocket coils, the Tempur-ProAdapt’s medium feel keeps it to a minimum.

Edge Support

The Tempur-ProAdapt does not provide the best edge support, especially for those who require assistance getting in and out of bed. The foam layers will sink considerably, even on the firm models. However, poor edge support is common among all-foam mattresses and should be expected.

The Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid provides some edge support, but there are more supportive brands out there.

Durability

Tempur-ProAdapt comes with a 10-year warranty covering natural wear and tear. The hybrid version should last longer than the all-foam models due to more durable materials. Either way, you should get the most out of the Tempur-ProAdapt for the better part of a decade.
