Sleep Number 360 i10 Smart Bed Review

Materials: Foam, Air Chambers Firmness– Soft-Medium Firm 3-6 Price– $5,099 (Queen) Trial– 100 Nights Lifespan– 6-8 Years

Sleep Number beds are some of the most technologically advanced air-bed mattresses on the market. That said, those advancements do come with a hefty price tag.

Thankfully, you get what you pay for with a Sleep Number Bed, particularly the i10 Smart Bed. Sleep Numbers come with what they call DualAir options, which allow couples to find their levels of comfort on “their side of the bed.”

What sets the 360 series apart from other Sleep Numbers is its ability to read your movements while you sleep and make adjustments without waking you up. The i10 Smart Bed also includes foot-warming, massaging, and sleep tracking.

You may hear the phrase “Air Bed” and associate it with those cheap air mattresses you find at the store, but this isn’t the case with a Sleep Number.

It’s the air that helps find your perfect Sleep Number on a scale of 1-100. The air inflates and deflates based on your firmness needs, which means that the mattress will soften or harden up as it reads your movements through the night.

Materials & Construction

The 360 i10 is Sleep Number’s highest quality mattress. Along with the i7 and i8, it’s part of Sleep Number’s Innovation Series (and for a good reason). Let’s dive into each layer of the Sleep number 360 i10 and why they stake their claim as Sleep Number’s highest-end mattress.

360 i10 Mattress Cover

The Mattress cover is made mainly from Polyester (83%) and then includes Polypropylene (16%) and Elastane (1%).

360 i10 Comfort Layer

The i10 mattress itself is 13-inches thick, a full inch thicker than its i8 counterpart. Most of that density comes from the i10’s top layer of 7-inch foam made of two different Sleep Number foams—ThermaLux and Ergonomic.

  • ThermaLux Foam: This foam is designed for temperature balancing using ceramic infusion. The ceramic is more conductive than gel-infused foams, so, unlike other memory foam mattresses, the foam doesn’t stiffen up in cold temperatures.
  • Ergonomic Foam: Infused with “Swirl Gel,” this material is meant to better contour to the body, giving sleepers a more comfortable place to lay their head at night.

360 i10 Air Chambers (Support Layer)

Now, let’s get into what truly makes a Sleep Number bed.

Beneath the 7-inch comfort layer are two air chambers customizable for each side of the bed. They’re made of 24-gauge vulcanized rubber and wrapped in cotton fabric. Hidden inside the mattress is a 4-inch hose used to inflate and deflate the air chambers. You’ll also have easy access to the air hose via a zipper in the mattress cover.

So, with the press of a button, you can easily adjust the firmness level of your Sleep Number 360 i10 mattress.

Just keep in mind that the i10 only comes in three sizes—Queen, King, and California King. Both King sizes come with DuelAir technology, so you and your partner can adjust the bed to your ideal firmness. By default, Queens comes with one air pump but can be upgraded to 2.

Firmness

While the Sleep Number’s airbase will allow you to dial in your desired level of firmness, the 7-inch foam comfort layer will leave this mattress on the soft/plush side. That’s why, for those looking for a firmer bed, it may be difficult to justify the hefty price tag of the i10.

However, other reviewers have mentioned that by adjusting to a firmer sleep number setting, they were able to cancel out the soft foam enough to give them the feel they desired, and they didn’t feel like they were sinking too deep into the mattress.

That’s why the Sleep Number 360 i10 could be a good choice if you and your partner have drastically different preferences when it comes to mattress firmness.

You may be a side sleeper looking for something on the plush side, while your partner is a stomach sleeper who prefers a solid brick wall. While the i10 can’t turn into a brick wall, it can give your partner the firmness they desire while providing you with the softness you need.

That being said, this works better for couples who like to keep their distance when they sleep.

Rolling too close to your partner or cuddling in the middle of the bed may lead to some discomfort if the sides are set to different Sleep Numbers.

Sleep Position & Pressure Relief

By default, the Sleep Number 360 i10 will fall on the plush/soft side of the scale. This means side and back sleepers will be able to dial in their ideal Sleep Number. However, stomach sleepers might want to continue shopping.

Side Sleepers

Side Sleepers will get the most out of the Sleep Number 360 i10 because of its soft feel coupled with their ideal Sleep Number. Heavier side sleepers (230+) will most likely opt for a higher sleep number to firm up the supportive air chamber while still sinking into the 7-inch comfort layer.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find themselves looking for that “Goldilocks” Sleep Number, one that’s higher than their side sleeping counterparts but not too high. Couples sharing the queen-sized version of the i10 with the single air chamber should have no trouble finding a happy medium for their different sleeping styles. However, if you’re a side sleeper paired with a stomach sleeper (or vice versa), you’ll want to opt for the DualAir version.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers need a firm mattress to sleep on, and the Sleep Number 360 i10 might not cut it for them. While they can crank their sleep number up to 100, the 7-inch foam comfort layer may prove too plush anyway. However, lightweight stomach sleepers (<130 pounds) who prefer a softer mattress may be able to find what they’re looking for in the Sleep Number i10.

Temperature Control & Breathability

Temperature control is where the Sleep Number 360 i10 truly shines. While memory foam notoriously sleeps hot, many other reviewers have commented on the Sleep Number i10’s cooling capabilities. The cover is made with 3D fabric, making the i10 50% more breathable than rival brands. Additionally, the bed’s smart tech can detect excess body heat, absorbs it, and displaces it.

Technology

Beds aren’t typically thought of as “high-tech,” but Sleep Number is an exception.

Sleep Number puts out some of the most technologically advanced beds on the market, and none is more advanced than the 360 i10. The Sleep Number i10 will read your movements at night and automatically adjust, so you don’t have to.

You’ll also have access to the Sleep Number app on your phone that will tell you your Sleep IQ score based on the readings from your i10 mattress. It’ll even track your heart rate, breathing, temperature, and movement through the night and let you know what you can do to improve your sleep.

Upgrade to the different FlexFit versions of the i10 for added bells and whistles. For example, FlexFit 1 will add lights under the bed to help you see at night when getting up to go to the bathroom or waking up in the early morning. FlexFit 3 comes with foot-warming technology to help you fall asleep at night.

Feel and Bounce

Because the Sleep Number 360 i10 is adjustable, the mattress can run the gambit as far as bounce and feel are concerned. The 7-inch memory foam will naturally lead to some sink, but as is the main selling point with a Sleep Number, you can always bump up the firmness setting to give it more bounce when needed.

Motion Isolation

The Sleep Number 360 i10, according to customer reviews, has above-average motion isolation, meaning you shouldn’t be woken up as the bed adjusts your sleeping position. The only thing that should be waking couples up is a shift in sheets or somebody hogging the bedspread.

Not even snoring can get in the way of a good night’s sleep on the i10.

By elevating the head, the bed is designed to reduce snoring without throwing off your overall alignment. If your significant other is starting to sound like a broken lawn mower, all you have to do is grab your phone, open up your smart bed app, and tap “Partner Snoring.” The i10 will gently raise their head without disturbing their sleep.

Edge Support

Unfortunately, the Sleep Number 360 i10 does lack in the edge support department.

As customer reviews have noted, the 7-inch comfort layer will create some sag when getting in and out of bed as well as sleeping near the edge of the mattress. Those who need assistance getting in and out of bed may want to look for something with a little more edge support.

Durability

There have been a few complaints about malfunctioning technology in the i10 mattress. However, with a 15-year warranty and 100-night sleep trial, you can rest assured knowing that if something malfunctions on your i10 mattress, Sleep Number has you covered.
