Materials & Construction

Saatva’s Loom & Leaf mattress boasts 5 pounds of memory foam—and that’s just one layer. From top to bottom, this premium mattress features a breathable and cotton cover, a spiral zone gel-infused foam top layer, the 5-pound memory foam later, and a high-density foam base layer.

What makes the Loom & Leaf mattress different from its competitors? The quality and sourcing of its material.

The cotton cover consists of hypoallergenic, GOTS certified organic cotton. It’s also protected by Saatva’s proprietary Guardin botanical antimicrobial finish. According to Saatva’s website, their mattress foam is produced with renewable oils. Moreover, the flame retardants in this mattress have used natural thistle pulp instead of the harsh chemicals used by many other mattress makers. Saatva is also unique for their use of green manufacturing methods. For example, their flagship factory is fully solar powered.

The Loom & Leaf mattress comes in two firmness levels: relaxed firm (around a 6 on the firmness scale) and firm (8). The support and firmness of the Loom & Leaf mattress comes from the thick, dense layers of foam beneath the cushiony gel-infused foam top layer. While many other mattresses use foam with the same density all around, the foam layers within the Loom & Leaf mattress increase in density from top-down. This allows for optimum comfort without sacrificing firmness, support, and durability.

Sleep Position & Pressure Relief

Unlike the flagship models from many other top mattress brands, the Loom & Leaf comes in two different firmness levels. Generally speaking, side and back sleepers prefer the relaxed-firm model while stomach sleepers opt for the firm option. According to Saatva, the relaxed-firm version is the more popular model as it strikes an “ ideal balance of plush comfort and contouring support.” It also provides spinal support to sleepers of all positions.

In terms of pressure relief, it’s the 5-pound middle foam layer that does most of the work, contouring to the body and providing relief to pain points like hips and shoulders.

Temperature Control & Breathability

Many hot sleepers try to steer clear of memory foam mattresses because of their tendency to trap heat. To combat this common complaint, Saatva included the gel-infused top foam layer over the memory foam layer. However, many customers and online mattress reviewers give the Loom & Leaf mattress a slightly lower score for temperature regulation and breathability compared to other cooling mattresses.

Feel, Bounce, & Motion Isolation

If bounce is what you’re looking for, the Loom & Leaf mattress likely won’t be your top pick. While very comforting, the gel-infused foam top layer and memory foam layer underneath are relatively slow reacting compared to competitor models. However, if you prioritize plushness and comfort over bounce, you’ll have no qualms with this aspect of the mattress.

How does this quality affect motion isolation? The density and slow reaction of the foam layers will keep your partner from feeling movement from the other side of the bed.

Edge Support

When it comes to edge support, the Loom & Leaf mattress receives a lot of mixed reviews. And, unfortunately, you won’t find insight into this matter on Saatva’s website—the product page for the Loom & Leaf mattress doesn’t mention edge support at all. However, if you don’t tend to sleep on the edge of your bed, you likely won’t notice any shortcoming in terms of edge support; the high-density foam base provides ample support all around.

Saatva is confident enough in the durability of this mattress that they offer a 15-year, non-prorated warranty. It makes sense—a mattress this thick likely won’t give in as early as other foam-based mattresses.
